U.S. Treasury Auction Shows Stronger Demand

U.S. Treasury Auction Shows Stronger Demand

The U.S. Treasury sold $70 billion of 5-year notes at a high yield of 4.393%, with the auction clearing only slightly above the 4.391% “when-issued” market level. Investor demand improved compared with the previous auction, as the bid-to-cover ratio increased to 2.37 from 2.32, meaning buyers submitted roughly $2.37 of bids for every $1 of securities offered.

The results also showed a relatively strong participation from direct buyers, who took 28.4% of the offering, while indirect buyers accounted for a smaller share than their recent average. Overall, the auction was considered solid rather than exceptional, suggesting investors remain willing to absorb U.S. government debt despite elevated Treasury yields.
